Dodoma
The capital city of Tanzania where the government and parliament offices are based. It is located in the central part of the country, and is connected by road and the Central Railway Line. Dodoma is also known for its grape farming, along with millet and sunflowers.
Tourist attractions include: The Jamhuri Stadium, Bunge Hill and Kondoa Rock Art Sites (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Dar es Salaam
Known as the largest city in Tanzania with a population of over 6 million people. It is Arabic for ‘Haven of Peace’ and is a melting pot of cultures, with influences from other parts of Africa, the Middle East, India and Europe. The city serves as a major departure point for ferries to Zanzibar and private boats to Mbudya and Bongoyo Island.

Arusha
Also known as the ‘safari capital’ of Tanzania, it is located approximately 80 kilometres (50 miles) from Mount Kilimanjaro. Due to its higher elevation, Arusha offers a more temperate and cooler climate and is home to coffee, maize and flower farms. Furthermore, the world’s only source of Tanzanite is located in Mererani Hills, just outside of Arusha City.

Mbeya
Located near the Zambian border, Mbeya is located in the southwest region of Tanzania. Similar to Arusha, its high elevation brings in a cooler climate and the significant amount of rainfall makes the land fertile for coffee, tea, maize, beans and banana farming. It is also known for the Mbozi Meteorite, which is one of the largest iron and nickel meteorites in the world, weighing approximately 12 tons.
Tourist attractions include: Kitulo National Park, Ngozi Crater Lake and Lake Malawi.
Iringa
Irina is located in the southern highlands of Tanzania and is known for its hilly landscapes and the Iringa Escarpment, which provides stunning views of the Great Ruaha River Valley and beyond. Iringa’s maize production is a major contribution towards the countrys’ economy and is known as the “breadbasket of Tanzania”. Mufindi, also located in the Iringa Region is known for its tea plantations.

Mwanza
Home to the famous Bismarck rock, Mwanza is known as the ‘Rock City’ of Tanzania due to its distinct granite boulders, contributing to the unique landscape. The city lies on the shores of Lake Victoria, making it a major economic hub in Tanzania, driven by fish processing, cotton production, agriculture and trade.

Tanga
Tanga is one of the oldest cities and major ports in Tanzania, making it a significant city for trade and exports to the country. Tanga was once the sisal capital of the world (a plant used to make rope and twine) and still heavily contributes to the economy till today. It is also known for the Pangani River, which originates from Mount Kilimanjaro and the Amboni Caves, which are the largest limestone caves in East Africa.

Kigoma
Kigoma is home to Tanzania’s deepest port and lies on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. It is home to the Dr. David Livingstone Memorial and is known for world-renowned Jane Goodall’s research on chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park. The city is a cultural melting pot due to its proximity to Burundi and DR Congo.

Morogoro
Known as the “Garden of Tanzania”, Morogoro is known for its greenery, fertile land and the Uluguru Mountain Range. The city is now accessible by a 1.5 hour train ride from Dar es Salaam and tourists can travel to Mikumi National Park, which is approximately 100 kilometres away from the city. The city has a rich Christian history, with many churches and mission schools.
